JK Sorajaloste lowers fuel costs with new technology

In a time when the global situation has driven up oil prices in a short period, fuel efficiency has become a significant factor for profitability within the crushing industry.

The crushing company JK Sorajaloste, operating in Forssa in southern Finland, is well equipped to meet this challenge after investing in a new process train from JONSSON, consisting of the L130 primary crusher and the L550 cone crushing plant. The results show that it is possible to both increase production and decrease specific consumption.

50% higher capacity with 25% lower fuel consumption

By switching to the new equipment from JONSSON, JK Sorajaloste has managed to significantly lower fuel consumption per produced ton. Where the previous crushing train consumed approximately 0.8 liters per ton, the new JONSSON train now averages 0.72 liters per ton for equivalent work. This represents a general reduction in fuel consumption of a full 10 percent, and when crushing coarse material, savings of up to 25 percent have been recorded. This efficiency improvement occurs simultaneously with an increase in capacity from 200 tons to approximately 300 tons per hour.

All data is available to the customer directly in JONSSON’s production monitoring system JMS—a powerful tool for collecting information, optimizing production, and increasing profitability.

The technology behind the savings

The improved economy is explained by several technical factors.

  • Power reserve and low RPM: Both units are equipped with Cat C18 Stage V engines and powerful 600 kVA generators. The high engine power creates a significant power reserve that allows the crushing plants to run at lower RPMs, which directly reduces diesel consumption.
  • Efficient pre-screening: Thanks to an integrated and efficient pre-screen on the L130, fine material can be separated early on, which relieves the crushing process and saves energy.
  • Diesel-electric drive: The system is based on electric drive where the diesel engine powers a generator. Onboard components are driven directly by electric motors, which in turn minimizes the need for hydraulics. This also enables operation directly from the electrical grid where infrastructure is available, which can completely eliminate the need for diesel.

For JK Sorajaloste, the investment means they are now better equipped against fluctuations in energy prices, with a machine fleet that delivers more tons for every consumed drop of fuel.
